Ring Sizing for Beginners
If you’ve never had to think about ring sizes before, the terminology and the different national systems can be confusing fast. Here’s the short version.
What a “ring size” actually measures
Every ring size ultimately describes the ring’s inner diameter or inner circumference — how wide the hole is. Different countries just express that same underlying measurement differently: the US/Canada system uses a numbered scale, the UK/Australia system uses letters, and the EU/Germany systems use the circumference or diameter directly in millimeters. Our ring size chart lines all of these up side by side so you can see how they relate.
How to find your size
There are three common starting points, and our calculator supports all three:
- You already know a size (from a previous ring or a jeweler) — convert it to any other system instantly.
- You have a ring that already fits — measure its inner diameter and we’ll find the matching size.
- You’ve measured your finger directly — with a string, paper strip, or tape, following our step-by-step measuring guide.
A few things worth knowing up front
- Your finger size can vary by time of day and temperature — measure more than once if you can.
- A ring’s band width affects how it fits at the same nominal size.
- It’s completely normal to land between two sizes — that’s not a measuring mistake, just how sizing scales work.
- Results anywhere on this site are estimates. Always confirm with the retailer or jeweler before a purchase, especially for anything that can’t be easily resized.
